About the artist
Although Kim was born in FLorida she has spent most of her life in Newport News, VA with her mom, dad and brother Kevin.

Her mom, Jane Dillon, is an artist with a M.F.A. degree.  It wasn't until Kim went off to college did she realize how talented her mom was and not everyone's mom could paint or sew.
"When I made my bed at school all of my friends loved my quilt and asked where
I got it.  "Oh my mom made it!"  Another item that I had in my dorm room, made by
my mom, that was a big hit was a painted cat foot stool.

Kim went on to get her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from ODU in Norfolk, VA (1991)

Her main hobby throughout college was photography and it wasn't until 2000 did she decide that she wanted to learn how to sew.  She bought herself a Kenmore sewing machine and made all of her clothes for a cruise she went on that summer.
"I loved to garment sew and I remember saying to my mom that I would never take
up quilting because it seemed to tedious and repitious.  Then a few years later I
     made my first quilt."

Kim is a self taught artist who has created many works of art in other mediums as well.  She also likes to paint, hand embroider, knit and make one-of-a-kind art dolls.  Her otehr hobbies include young adult fiction writing, photography and antiquing.

She resides in the Shenandoah Valley in Lexington, VA with her husband and two boys, Joshua and Jacob.
Where the website name comes from:

I adore cats, especially black cats.  When I was little my parents and brother and I went on a trail in Shenandoah National Park called Riprap Trail.  I commented how that would make a cute name for a cat.  At that time I declared that when I grew up I was going to get an all black cat and name him Riprap.
I combined my love of cats and my birth month to come up with October Cat Studios.
